This ‘full-on floral’ vintage 40’s fabric has somehow managed to get away from the war era of austerity and clothes coupons, nearer to the ‘wonder’ years of the 30’s actually. As so often in my making I love the fabric, often keeping it around my work area for far too long, being lucky to have some fantastic sources of vintage fabric remnants waiting to be rescued.

Often the fabric, especially vintage, sings in just the right way to find the accompanying lining, embellishments etc. And this did just that. The medium weight cotton is printed in soft summer hues of blue, lemon and lilac flowers enabling the soft grey and white spot lining to soften it even more, with the added lilac and white spot bound neck and armholes. The iconic Pickle and Dot patch pockets lined with apple and white spot are embellished with toning floral trim and soft pretty ribbons.

This dress for a 4 year old is ideal for summer parties, or other best dress days, fitting neatly at the top and then swinging out in its soft billowing balloon shaped hem.

Bear in mind I will be making another but for a 3 year old soon.

Machine wash at 30°.Cool iron if necessary.
